A new blog launched this month, Corsets, Cutlasses, and Candlesticks. Their focus? History, fiction, and, of course, that blending of the two—historical fiction (one of my favorite genres). Their inaugural post, “Why Read Historical Fiction?” provides a great introduction to their blog and the value of reading historical fiction and including it in courses of study. Check them out. Their content has proven valuable and enjoyable so far. I think you will like it, too.

I am an author, speaker, and high school writing teacher/librarian. I love to read, write, and encourage others. I write poetry, retell folktales, and pen folkloric and historical fantasy novels for both middle grade readers and adults. My mission is to write entertaining fiction full of magic and heart, and to encourage my readers to wonder, marvel, and follow their dreams. An avid reader of fantasy--for all ages, I also love historical fiction, and my latest favorite genre is historical mystery, although I could never imagine trying to write one! Here at Literate Lives, I blog about many aspects of pursuing a literate lifestyle in our high speed world. I hope, in my own small way, I can help parents, teachers, and writers nurture a reading/writing lifestyle in both home and school. View all posts by Debby Zigenis-Lowery
